Companies who are taking action.
There are many companies and manufacturers who are taking responsibility to become eco-friendly producers. For example, Starbucks Coffee Company is now going plastic straw-free by the end of this year. Their replacement is a strawless, recyclable lid. For the drinks that have whip cream and still require a straw, they created a paper/compostable straw that can be used instead and is safe for the environment (Caron). This is better for the environment because if the straws do end up getting mixed in with trash instead, they are biodegradable and will not harm the earth. Another company that is trying to make a change is Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse. They give you a reusable bag for your to-go food instead. This is an awesome alternative because one, it’s reducing plastic bag consumption, and two because it can be reused as a bag for almost anything. The most common use can be used to carry groceries which definitely limits the number of single-use plastic bags. Many grocery stores like Kroger even sell reusable bags in the checkout lines and ask their shoppers if they have reusable ones they would like to use that day. Today, the next big thing is creating new biodegradable plastics that will help decrease our carbon footprint on the world.
